Guillou and Tolentin’s heroics secure win over Turkmenistan

Katrina Guillou and Dionesa Tolentin’s timely goals in the second half forged Philippines its second win over Turkmenistan in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, 2-0, on Wednesday, January 15, at the Yunusobod Sports Complex in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

At the 17:42 mark of the second half, Guillou opened the floodgates for the Philippines with a goal off a cross from Judy Connolly, who delivered heroics in their previous game against Uzbekistan.

Tolentin followed through by taking advantage of a loose ball courtesy of a poor pass from the Turkmenistan team then firing a shot past goalkeeper Malika Eminova for a two-goal advantage to seal the game at the 29:56 mark.

With two victories and one draw in their record, the 59th-ranked Philippines now has seven points with a +7 goal differential, putting the Filipinas in the provisional top spot in Group C and bringing them closer to an Asian Cup ticket.

The Filipinas will conclude the group phase when they face Australia on Sunday, January 19, for a chance to claim their first-ever Asian Cup ticket.

They had opened their campaign by trouncing Kuwait, 4-1, then stunning host team Uzbekistan with a late goal last Monday, January 13, to score a 2-2 draw.

The 2025 AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup will take place in China from May 7–18.
